LIVING IN AUSTRALIA – EMERGENCY NUMBERS (NO, IT’S NOT 911!)
So you arrived and are now living in Australia.
Australia’s emergency number is 000. It is a free call from every phone in Australia, including mobile phones.
Call 000 if you’re in a life-threatening situation and need the help of the police, fire brigade or ambulance service. This includes if you are witnessing a crime in progress.
Do not call 000 if it is NOT an emergency.
When you call 000, you will be connected to an operator who will help progress your request for help. You will need to tell them which service you need—police, fire or ambulance.
Depending on your situation and health, you may want to take into account how close or far away your new room will be from a hospital of health care centre.
Many of the PBSA (purposed built rooms) buildings tend to be close to the city centres and therefore close to hospitals. When looking at room options, you will notice that all Bedssi listings will tell you if they are walking distance to support services (including hospitals and health care centres).
In this way you will know if your new flat is going to be walking distance to a health professional.
This is precisely why we created Bedssi, because every one is different and has different needs.
Living and choosing a place to live in Australia is tricky and this is why we include as much information as possible with every room listing.
We are on a mission to bring transparency into the system, making it possible for you to make a choice to book a room based on an informed decision.
