Ahh, dance. Nothing seems to set the soul and the body on fire quite like the art and sport of dancing. For Juan Ruiz, the music and rhythm in his body has helped him achieve not just professional accomplishments but also personal success. Juan is a Latin dance champion and owner of one of the biggest dance studios in Sydney.
Being born in Ecuador, moving to Chicago and finally settling in Sydney has filled Juan’s life with rich experiences. Working as a full-time programmer, Juan only danced and taught part-time, at night. Everyone was getting into Salsa and so few knew about Bachata. Juan saw an opportunity to create an even more phenomenal dance program and was motivated to organize events to help promote Latin dance. He decided to quit his 9-to-5 job and opened a dance studio business with his partner. As more investors decided to participate in their endeavor, Juan and his partners started the Sydney International Bachata Festival.
Some of the competitions Juan has won for Latin dance are:
4x Australia Bachata Champion at the Australia Bachata Championships and Australian Latin Dance Championships
5x Australia Team Bachata Champions including World Salsa Solo, Australian Latin Dance Championships, Australia Bachata Championships
Team leader of 4x Australian Amateur Team Champions
In the interview presented by Innovator Diaries, we learn about Juan’s story towards greatness, success and happiness. He shares about how he has promoted his business as well as how he continues to improve himself to be a better leader and business man. Juan also imparts plenty of useful advice for those who dream of success in both dance and business.
