Many people dream of becoming full-time artists, but not many are blessed to go on this path. Fortunately, Reg Mombassa started on this road at a very young age, with fully supportive parents and an education that paved his way. Reg is a talented impressionist painter, but he is also passionate about creating music. In the 70’s, Reg was part of the popular Australian band, Mental As Anything, which he founded in art school. He has toured many parts of the world during his time with the band.
He then moved on to designing surf and street-wear clothing, combining his artistic flair and his love of the Australian lifestyle. He also moved on to another band, Dog Trumpet, which he formed with his brother. In 2013, the band’s album was considered for the Australian Music Prize Album of the Year award.
Through his many great achievements, Reg was able to understand the world from a successful artist’s perspective. In this interview, Reg talks about his life as a visual artist and musician. He discusses the challenges he has faced and offers advice for artists on different phases in their journey.
